It’s a good point about the cliche characters in Running Point. Sandy is probably the least sympathetic (albeit smarter than the stupid brother) but I also didn’t understand why he wouldn’t introduce his nice boyfriend (who I think is actor Chris Evans brother Scott). A small item but none of the basketball players look like they’d be actual basketball players, least of all Travis Bugg (Chet Hanks). Maybe a wrestler or rugby player but a basketball physique nah.

I fully agree with all of this. None of the basketball played seemed real to me! I did enjoy however that the show isn’t TOO heavy on the basketball playing scenes bc sports are generally boring to me

Yeah when it leaned out of the locker room and off the court it was better for sure.

Yes I think I actually commented on Travis being too bulky to be a basketball player when I started watching. In the end i think it still worked ok since they didn't really show a lot of games as Marco said

Running Point is cute but it suffers from the same sense of hyperreality that plagued The Mindy Project. Nobody feels like an actual person.

Yes exactly! Everyone just feels too 1 sided and exaggerated to be a real person. I never really got into the Mindy project and they might have been the reason. I still have some hopes that season 2 gets a bit better because it's entertaining.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience with streaming services. Amazon Prime I find to be particularly frustrating to navigate with so much content locked behind paywalls and subscriptions. Glad I still collect and watch physical media so I can watch my favourite stuff whenever I need to.

I have yet to play the second Last of Us game (need to soon). I really hope the backlash you predict does not come to pass but with the way the world is going lately I wouldn’t be surprised.

I haven’t watched much TV lately, I’ve been finding myself addicted to those YouTube true crime pseudo documentaries. Part of me doesn’t trust content creators on YouTube but they are so much more entertaining than Dateline, 20/20, or a typical streaming service documentary mini series that stretches the story across multiple hours while baiting the viewer forward with “you’ll never guess what they found next” being said over and over.

Amazon Prime is one of the worse interfaces I've seen for streaming which is shocking considering how big of a company they are. The only one I've seen that's worse is Hayu (reality TV streaming in Europe).

What channels do you watch on YouTube for true crime? I used to watch some in the past but it's been a while since I really sat in front of a YouTube video.

My favourite is Explore With Us, they have several channels all under that umbrella name and I have been watching them all a bunch. Then Dr. insanity is really good, and Midwest Safety is alright for short videos usually focused on body cam footage similar to the show Cops.

Thanks so much for the recommendations! I have a friend who love true crime everything. I need to share all of those with her.

I made a promise to myself to not watch Bravo Realities two years ago, and every time I read your mini recaps, it's hard for me not to want to watch again lol.

Haha be strong 💪!

Although I don't know how you resist. It's one of the guilty pleasure watch I have with my partner where we like to just comment out loud through the episode. It's been a great stress relief.

I know they're not similar because Running Point isn't a rom com, but when I first heard about it, it made me think of the first book in Susan Elizabeth Philip's Chicago Stars Series. It Had To Be You, where the female lead inherits the Chicago Stars Football team.

Ohhh that's sounds like something I'd read as part of my romance rotation in between scifi books. Do you recommend it?

I remember really enjoying the series, but that was almost 10 years ago. I think it would still hold up.

Running Point is a good background show. I am a Mindy Kaling fan and supporter for life, but I will be the first to admit her signature is 1. Corny voiceover (it’s really overdone in Sex Lives of College Girls) & 2. Really leans into stereotypes and archetypes of personality types to the point where the inclusion on screen is almost hindered

I guess the voice over works for me because I could not even tell you that sex lives of college girls has a voice over 😂. But yea on the characters you are so right. She kind of toes the line of being too cliché where it's still watchable and enjoyable but you can feel characters are a tad too stereotypical.

In a mindy apologist for sure— but it does toe the line. You’re right. Genuinely though most of the characters when given the opportunity have more room to grow because they’re so flawed

Yea it's funny because I wrote most of the review before finishing the last 2 episodes and I noticed even by the end of the season I felt a bit better about the characters. I'm glad it got a second season because now that we know who everyone is supposed to be we can start seeing some nuance :)
